Proposed alterations and extension to Sighthill Bowling Club

Requirements
To maximise the chance of obtaining grants from the Lottery and SportScotland the Bowling Club extension must do more than meet the brief.
We have assessed the requirements as follows:
1. The use of the building should be maximised
2. The building should attract new members to the club and increase interest in the sport in the area.
3. The building should make the club an integral part of the community.
4. The building should have the maximum benefit to its users while minimising construction, maintenance and running costs.

Solutions
We propose to retain the shell of the function room part of the existing building. The rest of the bowling club building will be demolished and replaced by a single story structure as per the above plan. The new construction will be economical and easy to build to minimise costs.
The building will have areas of transparency allowing activities of the club to be seen from the road thus opening the club up to the community and increasing awareness of the sport and social aspects of the club. Areas of glazing on the southern, road side, elevation will have the added benefit of warming the building through passive solar gain.
To maximise the use of the building it is worth considering running a cafe that is open to the public. People will be encouraged into the building due to its open nature thus integrating the club into the community.
